Literacy India a non-profit organisation started its journey in 1996 with the objective of empowering underprivileged children and women and making them self-sufficient. It has endeavoured to meet this objective through imparting education and developing a platform for the underprivileged children to achieve a variety of skills in performing arts, science, technology and vocation, giving the children basic human values, dignity of labour, self belief and dreams with an ultimate goal of enabling them to support themselves and hopefully, their families.

Literacy India has in the last one decade touched the lives of 10,000 beneficiaries through various programs across seven villages in and around Gurgaon, in the state of Haryana. It has created an environment where these individuals are encouraged to develop their own personality and develop into confident individuals.

Literacy India identifies the age of each individual and checks their prior academic history and then judging their aptitude brings them under the umbrella of one of their projects.

It has a step by step program where it starts with personal grooming and then ensures their personal hygiene and cleanliness and a regular nutritious snack, also providing meals three days a week for enhanced productivity and confidence. Children are also given uniforms, books and a school bag to take back home.
